David Tennant, Daniel Mays and more join The Thursday Murder Club cast.

David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes will all star in the film adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling novel, The Thursday Murder Club. They join the previously announced Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie who will all star in the Netflix production.

“There’s some great names and some more names coming as well,” Osman told fans on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment. “I think this is the greatest British cast assembled since the [Harry Potter] movies”.

Home Alone director Chris Columbus serves as the writer and director for the highly anticipated crime-comedy film. The plot revolves around a group of friends residing in a retirement home who form a club to solve murders as a hobby. However, their amateur sleuthing takes a serious turn when they stumble upon a real murder case.

The ensemble cast features Helen Mirren as Elizabeth, a former spy, bringing her sharp intellect and espionage skills to the group. Ben Kingsley plays Ibrahim, an ex-psychiatrist whose analytical mind and understanding of human behaviour prove invaluable. Pierce Brosnan takes on the role of Ron, a former union activist known for his determination and leadership qualities. Lastly, Celia Imrie portrays Joyce, an ex-nurse with a compassionate nature and medical knowledge that aids the team in unexpected ways.

Together, these characters bring a mix of expertise and charm to their unconventional detective work, promising a film filled with intrigue, humour, and surprising twists.

Osman’s book The Thursday Murder Club was released in 2020. The film is set to be released next year.
