Dario G is set to re-enter the charts this weekend, following the DJ’s death earlier this week.
As it stands in the live iTunes charts, Sunchyme is currently at No.29 and Carnival De Paris is at No. 35. Sunchyme was originally a hit back in 1997 and would have been No.1 if it wasn’t for Sir Elton John’s Candle In The Wind being released at the same time, following Princess Diana’s death. Dario G later released Carnaval De Paris for the 1998 FIFA world cup.
It features well known tunes from across the globe and peaked at No.5 in the UK singles chart. It’s still used in broadcasting coverage of major tournaments, including Euro’s 2024.
Both tracks were the brain-child of Paul Spencer, who alongside Soctt Rosser and Stephen Spencer released under the name ‘Dario G’. He passed away after he was diagnosed with stage for rectal cancer in 2023.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today,” the musician’s family said as they announced the news on social media. He was positive until the end but this was one battle he could not fight anymore. He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people.
“He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved him. Shine bright our big star.”
The UK’s most listened to chart show, The Big Top 40 is made up of airplay, downloads and iTunes streams and is likely to feature one if not both of Dario G’s biggest tracks this Sunday. Listen from 4pm on Global Player, Heart or Capital to find out if they chart.
