Capital’s Summertime Ball on ITV: Jordan North Interview
Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard returns to ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday 23rd June at 6:30pm as part of ITV and Global, the Media & Entertainment Group’s exclusive partnership.
The entertainment special airing on ITV1 and ITVX will showcase the highlights from the UK’s biggest summer party – Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard – which will be back at Wembley Stadium with an unmissable star-studded line-up of the hottest hit music stars.
Jordan North opened up about hosting the event for the first time, before it happened last Sunday…
How does it feel to be hosting your first Summertime Ball?
It’s a bit surreal because I’ve watched it for years. I’m pretty nervous if I’m honest, but it’s not long away now. We’ve done loads of prep and the Ball is a very well-oiled machine. I’m pretty sure everything will run smoothly on the day! I’m also super excited and I just cannot wait to get on that stage and introduce the first artists to 80,000 people at Wembley.
What do you think viewers on ITV1 and ITVX can expect from the Summertime Ball?
Well, I’ve only ever seen it on ITV, because I’ve never been to the Ball before. I’ve never been there as a punter or a guest. But even on the telly you can expect a high adrenaline packed show with just the biggest pop stars and artists that are out right now. And it’s not just like UK wide stars. It’s some from all over the world that we fly in so you can expect some of the biggest names onstage at Wembley in London. So if you aren’t able to come, you can still pick up and feel the atmosphere through the show. It’s just non-stop screaming from start to finish. Expect a massive show, just a proper good, slick pop show.
Are you feeling nervous ahead of the event? What are you most nervous about?
I am feeling pretty nervous. But it’s one of those where, as it’s getting closer to it, and I’m starting to learn more about the event and everything that’s going on behind the scenes I’m getting less nervous!
Will you have any pre-show rituals before hosting the event?
Yes, I’m basically coming off the booze for about 10 days before, because I want to be… I want to be fighting fit and in the best shape. And I’m hoping, although I always say this and I know it sounds a bit boring….but I’m hoping to go for a run in the morning. But that might not be possible because we’re on-air even behind the scenes at the Ball so we’ve got to get cracking! So no rituals but just some breakfast loads of coffee. Not too much. Because I don’t want to be going on stage and doing everyone’s head in. But yeah, hopefully I can make that run!
Do you have anything funny or interesting on your rider for your dressing room?
The one thing I always ask for is Kinder Bueno’s. Just seeing some stacked up on a table in a dressing room just makes me feel happy. And then I always have them with a brew and any for other people popping in, I can give them some so yeah, it’s a bit diva-ish but I asked for Kinder Bueno’s.
What has it been like joining the Capital family?
I cannot tell you enough how much I love it here. Everybody from day one; from the day I walked in the building have been so nice. And that’s everyone from security downstairs to the exec producers on the show to our owner and head of people here, everybody has been so so nice. And they’ve made me feel really welcome. And I know it sounds a bit corny, but I feel like I’ve been here for years. I’m having an absolute ball. I’m having a blast. And all my friends and family as well have said “oh, you can tell a difference you’ve got a spring in his step”, which is really nice.
Have any of your fellow presenters given you any tips ahead of hosting the Ball?
Yes, Chris and Sian have been helping me out and giving me loads of tips and advice. They’ve both said that it’s pretty much mad, and it’s hectic. And it’s very, very loud, but also really hot. So I had an outfit planned that I was looking forward to wearing and everyone was like, “don’t wear that. If it’s hot, it’s going to be really sweaty”. So I’ve had to have a change of outfit because it needs to be more…more summertime, but not quite linen because I don’t think linen is the right look on stage. But that’s the advice that has been given to me.
Is there an act you’re particularly excited to see perform this year?
There’s loads of acts that I’m really looking forward to seeing and there’s loads of acts that I’ve never seen before. I think Sabrina Carpenter is one because she is massive. Like people in London have been camping out overnight to see her shows. She performed in London earlier this year and people were like sleeping out. Benson Boone I really want to see as well. Who else? I think Sugababes as well. It’s great that they’re going to be there. I’ve never seen them live before. And Meghan Trainor I’ve never seen live before as well. There are many acts that I want to see but I might miss half of them because I’ll be working and doing stuff backstage!
