When does The Great British Bake Off 2023 start?
News: The Great British Bake Off 2023 is set to launch on Tuesday 26 September at 8pm on Channel 4.
The brand new series starts later than previous series, which have kicked off in mid September. It means this year’s competition will run until early December.
The series will air 90 minute episodes, but will no longer feature any country-themed weeks. “We didn’t want to offend anyone but the world has changed and the joke fell flat, executive producer Kieran Smith told The Guardian”.
“We’re not doing any national themes this year…We’re doing all the regular weeks: Cakes, Biscuits, Bread, Patisserie, Chocolate, plus Party Cakes is a new theme. No spoilers, but it features challenges I think viewers will love.”
Fewer cooking and more baking recipes isn’t the only change this year. Alison Hammond joins the series to co-host alongside Noel Fielding, replacing Matt Lucas.
No stranger to the famous white tent, Alison previously appeared as a baker in 2020 for Celebrity Bake Off, but this time around she’ll welcome the Class of ‘23 to the nation’s best loved baking show from the other side of the counter.
Alison is set to brighten up Autumn on The Great British Bake Off
On securing the role Alison said, ‘Finally I can talk about it! I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Great British Bake Off and can’t wait to meet this year’s bakers. It’s a huge honour to be back in the tent and I can’t wait to get started’.
