BBC announces brand new thriller, The Guest starring Eve Myles and Gabrielle Creevy

The BBC has greenlit The Guest, an electrifying new thriller from writer and creator Matthew Barry (Men Up, Industry), in collaboration with Quay Street Productions, part of ITV Studios (Fool Me Once, Dead Hot). Set to air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, the gripping four-part series (4×60) promises a fast-paced, suspenseful narrative centered on a complex, toxic relationship between two women.

Leading the cast are Eve Myles (Hijack, Keeping Faith, Broadchurch) and Gabrielle Creevy (Three Women, In My Skin), supported by a stellar ensemble including Sion Daniel Young (Lost Boys & Fairies), Emun Elliott (The Gold), Bethan Mary-James (Friday Night Dinner), Julian Lewis Jones (House of the Dragon), Joseph Ollman (Queenie), Clive Russell (Game of Thrones), and Catherine Ayers (Missing You).

The Guest delves into the intense and dangerous bond between successful businesswoman Fran (Myles) and her employee Ria (Creevy). Ria, who has spent her life without direction, is drawn to Fran’s confidence and begins to thrive under her influence. But when Fran’s advice triggers a shocking incident, the two women become entangled in a web of secrets, manipulation, and deception. As the stakes rise, a compelling game of cat-and-mouse ensues, leaving viewers questioning who is truly in control.

Matthew Barry, also serving as executive producer, describes the series as “an exciting thriller” that also examines “class, social mobility, and the growing disparity between those at the top and bottom of society.”

Quay Street Productions’ Davina Earl and Nicola Shindler said, “We’re thrilled to work with Matt again. His scripts are not only packed with tension and twists but also filled with relatable characters and sharp humour.”

BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt added, “The Guest is a hugely entertaining, cleverly plotted thriller that will have viewers hooked. After the incredible response to Men Up, we’re excited to collaborate with Matthew and Quay Street Productions once again on another Welsh-set drama.”

Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, called the series a “twisty-turny, edge-of-your-seat thriller” with a beautifully crafted and tense storyline.

Produced by Karen Lewis (Happy Valley, Men Up) and directed by Ashley Way (Who is Erin Carter?), The Guest begins filming this month in and around Cardiff. ITV Studios will manage international distribution.
