Australian drama Scrublands is coming to BBC Four

News: The BBC has secured the rights to the new Australian crime drama "Scrublands," which is adapted from the acclaimed novel penned by Chris Hammer. This gripping four-part series, produced by the Australian production company Easy Tiger (known for "Colin from Accounts" and "The Twelve"), features a stellar cast including Luke Arnold (renowned for "Black Sails" and "Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS"), Jay Ryan ("It Chapter Two" and "Top of the Lake"), and Bella Heathcote ("CAUGH*T" and "Relic").

"Scrublands" unfolds in a secluded country town, where a charismatic and devoted young priest portrayed by Jay Ryan commits a shocking act, opening fire on his congregation and tragically claiming the lives of five parishioners. A year later, investigative journalist Martin Scarsden, played by Luke Arnold, arrives in Riversend with the intention of crafting a straightforward feature story to mark the anniversary of the tragedy. However, as Martin's instincts come into play and he delves beneath the surface, the accepted narrative begins to unravel, thrusting him into a high-stakes race against time to uncover the truth.

The cast of "Scrublands" is rounded out by a talented ensemble, including Robert Taylor ("The Newsreader"), Adam Zwar ("Squinters"), Zane Ciarma ("Neighbours"), Victoria Thaine ("Nowhere Boys"), Stacy Clausen ("True Spirit"), Genevieve Morris ("No Activity"), and newcomer Ella Ferris.

Sue Deeks, the Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, commented, "With its enigmatic central protagonist and evocative portrayal of rural Australia, 'Scrublands' boasts a compelling and intricate narrative that will keep BBC viewers captivated until the very end."
